ingredients & safety

Are Hexis products safe for daily use?

Yes. Hexis products are formulated with daily use in mind, particularly DHR (Daily Hydration + Recovery), which is designed as a non-negotiable part of your everyday nutrition stack — not just a race-day product. Every ingredient is selected at functional, evidence-based doses.

There are no proprietary blends, no artificial stimulants hidden in undisclosed amounts, and no ingredients that create dependency or tolerance. You know exactly what you're consuming and why.

Are the products tested or science-backed?

Every Hexis formulation is built on peer-reviewed sports science — not marketing trends. Key ingredients like sodium citrate, magnesium glycinate, and our dual-carbohydrate blend (maltodextrin + fructose) are among the most studied compounds in endurance nutrition research.

We don't add ingredients because they're fashionable. If it's in the formula, there's a documented reason for it being there at that specific dose.

Do Hexis products contain caffeine?

Only where explicitly labelled. The Hexis range is designed to give you full control over your caffeine intake:

  • Dura35+ — contains caffeine (clearly labelled)
  • Dura35 — caffeine-free gel
  • J60, DHR, Hydra 700, S200 — all caffeine-free

This means you can strategically time your caffeine intake during long efforts without accidentally stacking doses from multiple products.

Are Hexis products suitable for sensitive stomachs?

GI tolerance was a core design priority across the entire range. A few key decisions reflect this:

  • Highly bioavailable mineral forms — magnesium glycinate and zinc bisglycinate are chelated forms that are gentler on the gut than cheaper oxide or sulphate forms
  • Dual-carb sourcing — using both glucose and fructose pathways in J60 and the gels means higher carb absorption rates without overloading a single intestinal transporter

As with all nutrition products, we recommend trialling in training before race day to dial in your personal tolerance.

Are Hexis products gluten free, vegan, and preservative free?

Yes — all Hexis products are gluten free and vegan.

All powders (Hydra700, DHR, J60 and Fuel 60) and capsules (S200) are made without preservatives.

Our gels (DURA35 and DURA35+) are also gluten free and vegan, but they do contain a small amount of potassium sorbate (preservative). This is used to keep the product stable and safe over time, especially in heat and real-world conditions.

We don’t add anything unnecessary — every ingredient has a purpose.

the science behind hexis

What does “dual-carb” actually mean?

Your gut uses different intestinal transporters to absorb different carbohydrates. Glucose uses the SGLT1 transporter, while fructose uses GLUT5. When you rely on glucose alone, that transporter hits a ceiling — typically around 60g per hour.

By combining glucose (from maltodextrin) with fructose, Hexis products like J60 and Dura35 use both pathways simultaneously, allowing absorption rates of up to 90g of carbohydrate per hour. More fuel, less GI stress, better performance on long efforts.

Why do electrolytes matter for performance?

Electrolytes — particularly sodium — are responsible for fluid balance, nerve signalling, and muscle contraction. When you sweat, you lose sodium at a much higher rate than any other electrolyte, which is why plain water alone doesn't cut it during extended effort.

A 1–2% drop in body weight from sweat is enough to measurably impair performance. Sodium helps your body hold onto and absorb the fluid you're taking in, rather than flushing it through. This is why DHR uses a dual-sodium system (sodium citrate + sodium chloride) — different absorption rates, broader coverage, better retention.

Why Sodium Citrite and not just Sodium Chloride (Table Salt)?

Sodium chloride (salt) is effective but has a sharp, harsh taste at higher doses — which can make products unpalatable at the doses athletes actually need.

Sodium citrate has a milder, slightly alkaline taste profile and also acts as a blood buffer, helping manage the acidity that builds up during intense efforts. DHR combines both forms to deliver broad-spectrum sodium coverage: chloride for direct electrolyte replacement, citrate for palatability and buffering benefit.

What role does Magnesium play in recovery?

Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body — including muscle relaxation, protein synthesis, and ATP energy production. Endurance athletes are particularly prone to magnesium depletion due to sweat losses and high metabolic demand.

DHR uses magnesium glycinate, a chelated form with significantly higher bioavailability than cheaper forms like magnesium oxide. It supports muscle recovery, reduces cramping risk, and contributes to quality sleep — which is when most adaptation actually happens.

How do I know which Hexis products are right for my training?

The Hexis range is built as a complete system — each product has a specific role based on effort duration and intensity:

  • DHR — daily hydration baseline + recovery (every day)
  • J60 — carbohydrate fueling for efforts over 60–75 minutes
  • Dura35 / Dura35+ (Caffeine) — on-the-go gel fueling during races and long sessions
  • Hydra 700 — high-sweat environments and hot weather hydration
  • Fuel 60 — carb-only 2:1 ratio, 60g carbohydrate formula for fuelling, topping up glycogen, or recovery — suitable for anyone
  • S200 — sodium top-up capsules for ultra-distance events

Why does Hexis focus on consistency instead of intensity?

Adaptation in endurance sport is cumulative. It's built through the ability to train hard, recover well, and do it again — session after session, week after week. A single hero session means nothing if you're under-recovered and compromised the next day.

This is why DHR exists as a daily product, not just a race-day one. Keeping your electrolytes, minerals, and hydration topped up consistently means your body is always in a state ready to absorb training. That's where real gains are made — not in the occasional big effort, but in the accumulated load of consistent, well-fuelled training.

Are Hexis products formulated?

Yes — every active ingredient in the Hexis range is dosed at the amounts used in the research that supports it, not at token amounts added purely to justify label claims.

This matters more than it sounds. A lot of products in this space include impressive-sounding ingredients at fractions of the doses shown to be effective — often to keep costs down or fit more items on a label. At Hexis, if an ingredient is listed, it's there at a dose that does something. If we can't dose it properly, it doesn't go in.

who can take hexis?

Who is Hexis designed for?

Hexis is built for endurance and multisport athletes — runners, triathletes, cyclists, and anyone who trains long and takes their performance seriously.

The brand came directly from the frustration of racing an Ironman on budget nutrition and paying the price for it. Every product in the range exists to solve a specific problem that endurance athletes actually face — not to fill shelf space with me-too formulas. If you train for hours at a time and want your nutrition to match the effort you put into your sport, Hexis is for you.

Is Hexis safe for people with medical conditions?

While Hexis products use well-researched, food-grade ingredients, we always recommend consulting your GP or sports dietitian before use if you have an existing medical condition — particularly:

  • Cardiovascular conditions — some products contain meaningful sodium doses
  • Kidney conditions — electrolyte metabolism may be affected
  • Diabetes or blood sugar management — carbohydrate products like J60 and Dura 35 contain significant sugars

This isn't a blanket scare — it's about making sure your nutrition works with your health picture, not against it.

Can pregnant or breastfeeding women use Hexis products?

We recommend consulting your healthcare provider before using any sports nutrition products during pregnancy or breastfeeding. While the ingredients in Hexis products are generally considered safe, nutritional needs and tolerances change significantly during this period, and individual advice from your doctor or midwife is the appropriate path.

Note that Dura35+ (Caffeine) should be avoided during pregnancy due to its caffeine content.

Can I take Hexis if I’m sensitive to caffeine?

Absolutely. The Hexis range was deliberately designed to keep caffeine isolated in a single, clearly labelled product so that caffeine-sensitive athletes can use everything else without concern.

Simply avoid Dura35+ (Caffeine) and you're in the clear. DHR, J60, Dura35, Hydra 700, and S200 are all completely caffeine-free — you can use the full system without any caffeine exposure.
